Who knew red and black could be so Green?



In the spirit of REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE; Team REX is focusing on impacts to the environment. This year we have recycled over 500 pounds of aluminum to reduce our ecological footprint. The idea of Jim Barbour, a mentor of ours from the AAI Corporation, was to collect enough aluminum cans to replace the aluminum we use building the robot. Generally each robot uses up to 100 pounds of aluminum parts. "Not only do we reduce our impact on the environment, we also raise money for the club's expenses!" To keep in the spirit of focusing on robot related ecological issues we intend to join programs that recycle old electronic items. Since FIRST has adopted a new robot control system we are going to look into ways to recycle old controllers that now can sit on the shelf with record players and eight track tape players!

Who would have ever thought that you could actually one day use the phrase "robot related ecological issues" in a sentence and not get laughed at? Well, that day has arrived and REX is going to give a GREEN tint to our team colors of RED and BLACK!
